Road cycling – The history of cycling

Road cycling, also known as road racing, is the oldest of all cycling sports. While mountain biking and BMX date from the second half of the 20th century, road cycling as we know it today emerged at the end of the 19th century, at the same time as the legendary races still on the professional calendar. From steel frames to carbon frames, from wool jerseys to lycra cycling bib shorts, from fixed gears to 11-speed cassettes, from frame-mounted gear shifting to electronic transmission… the road bike is no longer just a means of transport; its equipment has evolved and crossed the ages in pursuit of ever greater performance, ergonomics and weight reduction.

ROAD CYCLING – A WIDE VARIETY OF EQUIPMENT

Road cycling can be practised in many different ways. Criteriums, long distances, touring, sportives, cycle tourism… whether in competition or leisure riding, the right equipment is essential to spend hours in the saddle in the best conditions. Probikeshop offers the full range of components, clothing and accessories you could need for road cycling: road cranksets, rim brake wheels, disc brake wheels, as well as road handlebars, saddles and GPS computers.

A recent addition to the market, power meters allow you to better measure your power output and therefore your performance.

Of course, cyclist equipment has also evolved greatly, whether it's road helmets, cycling shoes, cycling jerseys, jackets and other technical clothing.
