Front derailleur – Small or large chainring?

The front derailleur is part of the bike transmission and the complete groupset of a road bike. As with the rear derailleur, its role is to move the chain to change the gear ratio (distance covered in one crank revolution) depending on the terrain and physical condition. The front derailleur is responsible for changing chainrings. Unlike a track bike (a single speed and a single chainring), a road bike can have 2 or 3 chainrings, and the front derailleur, fixed at the bottom of the seat tube, just above the bottom bracket, must move from right to left and vice versa to change chainrings.

Front derailleur – Everything is on Probikeshop.fr

The front derailleur, like the rear derailleur, is today operated by the brake levers for road bikes. A simple press of a finger at this level is enough to change chainrings. The front derailleur is fixed at the bottom of the seat tube (vertical tube) either by clamp or by braze-on if the frame manufacturer has provided for it. The main manufacturers of front derailleurs are the 3 major brands of complete groupsets for road bikes: Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo. The brands are available on Probikeshop.fr and offer front derailleurs (clamp-on or braze-on), for double or triple chainsets, for 8, 9, 10 or 11 speeds and in many ranges to suit all budgets.

Front derailleur – Mechanical or electronic?

The front derailleur is generally operated mechanically, via a cable. But in recent years, complete groupset manufacturers have developed electronic groupsets with derailleurs that operate electronically: this is to allow greater smoothness and speed in gear shifting. Traditional or electronic derailleurs, you will find everything on Probikeshop.fr!
