brothers André and Édouard Michelin. Specialists in rubber, legend has it that they had the idea of venturing into bike tyres after helping, in 1891, a cyclist whose tubular was punctured. To make repairs easier, that same year they invented the first detachable tyre, going on to claim their first success at the Paris-Brest-Paris race.
