Description
The AERON ExtraLite Protect inner tube belongs to the new generation of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) inner tubes. AERON/TPU is a brand of the German RTI Sports group — the company behind Ergon — and is manufactured in Austria.
Positioned at Level 3 “Endurance / High Performance” on the AERON scale, it aims for balance rather than records. On the manufacturer's scale, it scores 75/100 for puncture protection, 75/100 for weight saving and 75/100 for rolling resistance, whereas a butyl inner tube tops out at 50, 20 and 40 respectively. It is the choice for demanding road riders and tourers who want to cover the miles without punctures.
In 28-32 mm, it weighs 44 g, around 65% less than an equivalent butyl inner tube — a saving in rotating mass, where it is felt most. It folds down extremely compactly, transforming your saddle bag, and can be repaired with the dedicated AERON patch kit. Polymer Presta valve, available in 42, 65 or 80 mm.
Important: this inner tube is intended for disc-brake bikes. AERON does not approve it for rim brakes, as heat build-up can degrade the TPU.
