The USWE Zulo 2L Winter is the winter version of the brand's celebrated hydration belt. Specially optimised for cold-weather disciplines (Fatbike, cross-country skiing, winter running or snowmobile), it allows you to hydrate easily without the bulk of a backpack, while lowering the centre of gravity to hip level for total freedom of movement.
The great strength of this Winter version lies in its arsenal of freeze protection. It integrates a fully insulated hydration tube with a thermal sleeve and a specific valve that prevent the water from freezing, even at sub-zero temperatures. Furthermore, its back panel has been replaced by a full water-repellent membrane that effectively insulates your lower back from the icy wind and snow, while retaining the ultra-stable and anti-bounce fastening system unique to USWE.
Down to what temperature is the tube insulation effective? The insulating sleeve is designed for standard winter outings below freezing point. However, in extreme cold (below -10°C) and strong wind, the water sitting in the valve may eventually freeze. A pro tip is to blow gently into the tube after each sip to push the remaining water back into the main bladder, kept warm against your body.
Does the back panel get too warm in summer? Yes, this Winter version is specifically designed for winter and cool shoulder seasons. In summer, the absence of airy mesh will make it far too warm for comfortable use. It is a highly technical piece of equipment dedicated to cold and wet conditions.
Do the zips resist ice and snow? Absolutely. USWE uses robust zips fitted with oversized pulls that are easy to operate, even when wearing thick winter gloves or mittens.
