Description

Designed for MTB Enduro/All Mountain, the ERGON SM women's saddle steel rails is presented here in size S/M, which will suit female riders whose sit bone width ranges from 9 to 12 cm.

The ergonomics engineers at the German brand have taken into account the feedback frequently expressed by female mountain bikers, in order to design a saddle suited to their anatomy and the typical position used in MTB riding.

To reduce pressure on the genital area, which is the primary cause of discomfort on a bike for women, this ERGON SM saddle is widely open at the centre to relieve the most sensitive areas. The fairly wide nose describes a large V shape from the rear of the saddle, offering a wide support area around this opening. The rear of the saddle, which is rather narrow, also preserves freedom of movement, particularly in descending positions.

This women's saddle is built around a sturdy nylon shell, resting on chromoly steel rails. It uses comfortable orthopaedic foam padding and a microfibre cover.

A few tips for fitting your Ergon SM saddle correctly:

Tilt (The most critical point)

Unlike certain older-generation saddles, the Ergon SM Women has a slightly raised rear section and a hollowed-out central channel.

Advice: Start with a perfectly horizontal position. Place a spirit level along the full length of the saddle (from the tip to the highest point at the rear).

Adjustment: If you feel excessive pressure at the front, tilt the nose downwards by 1 or 2 degrees maximum. Do not go too far, otherwise you will slide forwards and your hands will have to bear your full weight.

Saddle setback

This saddle has wide support zones for the pelvic bones (sit bones).

The test: In the pedalling position, your sit bones should rest exactly on the wide, padded part of the saddle.

Adjustment: If you feel like you are "sliding" towards the front of the central channel, move the saddle slightly forward on the rails. If you feel like you are on the rear edge, move it back.

Saddle height

As the padding on the Ergon SM range is firm but dense (orthopaedic foam), the saddle compresses very little under weight.

Tip: If you are replacing a very soft or very thin saddle, check your leg height. A saddle that is too high will cause hip rocking, which will cancel out the ergonomic benefits of the Ergon and create friction.

The adaptation period

Ergon uses firm foams to provide better support over time.

A little patience: It often takes 2 to 3 rides for your tissues to adjust to this new pressure distribution. Do not change all the settings after just 10 minutes.

Bonus tip: Make sure the width (S/M in your link) matches the distance between your sit bones. If you have chosen this size, it is generally for a measurement of between 9 and 12 cm. A saddle that is too narrow will make any adjustment uncomfortable, regardless of how precise the fitting is.

Beautiful but tough...

"Great design, but comfort-wise it's a plank of wood. Sorry to be so harsh, but after 15 years of regular mountain biking I've never experienced such a lack of comfort. And at this price. . . I insisted for 1 month before taking it apart. Too bad there's no money-back guarantee. On that note, enjoy the ride ;-)"
