Description
The AERON ExtraLite Protect inner tube belongs to the new generation of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) inner tubes, a material that is gradually replacing butyl in performance setups. AERON/TPU is a brand of the German RTI Sports group — the company behind Ergon — and is manufactured in Austria.
Positioned at Level 3 “Endurance / High Performance” in the AERON range, it prioritises balance over record-breaking performance. On the manufacturer’s scale, it scores 75/100 for puncture protection, 75/100 for weight saving and 75/100 for low rolling resistance, whereas a butyl inner tube reaches only 50, 20 and 40 respectively. It is the choice for demanding road riders and touring cyclists who want to cover the miles without punctures.
In 23-28 mm, it weighs 34 g, around 66% less than an equivalent butyl inner tube — a saving in rotating mass, where it is felt most. It folds down extremely compactly, making a real difference in a saddle bag, and can be repaired with the dedicated AERON puncture repair kit.
Important: this inner tube is intended for disc-brake bikes. AERON does not approve it for rim brakes, as heat build-up can degrade the TPU.
