How to choose your MTB brake lever-shifter mounting clamp

This small clamp replaces the separate shifter mount: the shifter attaches directly to the brake lever. A clearer handlebar, finer adjustment and one less clamp to tighten. SRAM, Hope, Magura, Wolf Tooth and BikeYoke cover common combinations.

Which standard for my brake lever?

• SRAM Matchmaker (MMX) : SRAM Level, Code, Guide, G2, Elixir and DB5 levers.
• Shimano I-Spec : available in several generations (I-Spec II, B, EV), which are not interchangeable.
• Magura : split clamps and collars dedicated to MT and HS levers.
• Hope : clamps specific to Tech 3 and Tech 4 levers.

Can brands be mixed?

• Yes, that is precisely the purpose of most of these parts: fitting a Shimano shifter to a SRAM lever, or vice versa.
• Magura ShiftMix, Wolf Tooth ShiftMount and BikeYoke mounts are designed precisely for this.
• Check the exact generation on both sides : an I-Spec EV adapter is not compatible with an I-Spec II lever.
• The references left and right are distinct: order the correct side, or the pair.

What about the dropper seatpost?

Some clamps also accept a dropper seatpost remote on the left brake lever. This is the easiest way to free up space when the handlebar already carries a shifter, a sensor and a remote control.

When fitting

Tighten to the specified torque: these parts are made from thin aluminium and the threads mark easily. Position the lever and shifter loosely, test the grip, then tighten fully. Keep the clamp loose enough for the lever to rotate slightly in a crash rather than break.
