The MTB V-brake caliper

The rim brake body should be replaced after an impact or advanced corrosion of the return spring. Shimano remains the main supplier for this type of part.

What to check

• The mounting on brake bosses of the frame or fork, to the V-brake standard.
• The lever pull : a V-brake body requires a long-pull lever.
• The length of the arms, which determines tyre clearance.

When fitting

Adjust the return spring tension on both sides so that the pads move apart symmetrically, then adjust the pad alignment. An asymmetrical brake rubs on one side and loses power.
